Holiday books are one of my favorite traditions. I love bringing out old familiar books at the beginning of the season and picking up a couple new ones each year.

Latke, the Lucky Dog from National Braille Press is about a dog named Latke who is adopted on the first night of Hanukkah. Each night Latke gets into trouble: he eats a platter of sufganiyot (fried donuts), tears open presents or chews up candles. But every night the family forgives him and Latke learns a lesson about how to behave in his new home.

The story is simple but the lesson is clear: this is the season of family and forgiveness, but it’s also important to learn the rules and be grateful for what you have. Each time the family forgives Latke he remembers that he is one luck dog!
